Under the direction of the Technical Services Support Branch Chief, the incumbent is directly responsible for inspection of highway planting projects and irrigation work to ensure that the work being performed is in conformance with the project's contract plans, special provisions, and standard plans and standard specifications. The incumbent provides technical support and assistance to Resident Engineers (REs), Construction Engineers (CEs), Planning, Environmental, Design and Project Management for various transportation projects. A valid driver’s license is required when operating state vehicles. The incumbent will be assigned work based on Divisional and/or Departmental needs and could be assigned to any office within District 3.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Landscape Associate exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Position located at 3855 N Freeway Blvd #120, Sacramento, CA 95834 , Sacramento County.
The incumbent will be required to work at various locations throughout the North Region. Temporary assignment away from one’s “headquarter location” may be required. Employee will be notified of a change of assignment under the terms of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employee will be reimbursed for travel expenses according to the Department’s Travel Policies. May be required to work at night. Will be subject to noise, odors, dust, and extreme weather conditions. Incumbent must work with and about a variety of materials, construction and testing equipment. When in the office, either a construction field office or in a North Region Project Development branch, employees will work in a climate-controlled environment with artificial lighting. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.Individuals who are eligible for a Training & Development Assignment may also be considered for this position(s).
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
