Law Department, Domestic Violence Division

Pay Range: starting at $25.27 per hour

Work Location: 511 E. 11th St.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities



What you’ll do

  • Assist with witness preparation for all Domestic Violence–related ordinance violations in Kansas City Municipal Court to support effective prosecution and case outcomes.
  • Work under the direction of the City Prosecutor to coordinate victim and witness communication and trial readiness.
  • Contact domestic violence victims and witnesses by phone, email, letter, and in person to ensure court appearance and communicate docket changes or trial dates.
  • Gather critical case information from victims, including the presence of children, requested levels of contact, and any substance abuse or mental health concerns, to support informed prosecutorial decisions.
  • Attend court proceedings, maintain contact with victims and witnesses in the courtroom, and provide timely information to prosecutors during hearings and trials.
  • Connect victims with support services, including domestic violence shelters and resources, to ensure safety and access to assistance.

Qualifications



REQUIRES

  • An accredited Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies (sometimes also called legal assistant or other similar terms); OR an accredited Bachelor's degree; OR high school graduation and 3 years of experience working in a law office performing administrative work.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
