BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Senator, Chief of Staff, and Legislative Director, the Policy Analyst will perform duties including, but not limited to, assisting with the handling of a full bill package, review bill-coauthoring opportunities, manage constituent correspondence, and meet with constituents, legislative advocates, and other legislative staff members.
DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Senator, the Chief of Staff, and the Legislative Director, the Policy Analyst will assist with the development and management of the Member's legislative agenda, in conjunction with the Chief of Staff and Legislative Director. The Policy Analyst prepares briefings for the Member on legislative issues and may serve as the principal substitute for the Member at legislative meetings. Analyzes legislation and provides policy consultation. Responsible for research and formulation of legislation and meetings with proponents and opponents. Mentor staff including interns and fellows assigned to assist with legislation and budget preparation.
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
The ideal candidate will be familiar with the legislative process, as well as the structure and policies of state government; A minimum of three to six years of legislative and budget experience, excellent oral and written communications skills, and a strong policy and legislative process background are required. Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple projects, thrive under deadlines, and work well in a team environment.
The candidate will have the ability to perform administrative and policy-influencing functions effectively; communicate clearly and concisely; and establish and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationships. Demonstrate excellent written, research, computer, and communication skills.
The candidate should have a proven track record of executing innovative digital media campaigns and should possess a deep understanding of social media dynamics, influencer engagement, and content creation across various platforms.
The candidate should be proficient with video creation and still photography as well as a variety of video and photo editing software.
Must be able to work a flexible and highly demanding schedule.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required. At least three (3) years direct legislative experience is required. Five (5) years legislative experience preferred. Please include verification of your degree with your completed application.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance .
The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours or weekend work.
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
