Job Summary:


Under the direction of the Psychological Services Coordinator, School-Based Mental Health School Psychologists provide direct and indirect support to students experiencing mental health challenges. This role involves conducting assessments, offering short-term therapeutic interventions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting the development of trauma-informed, inclusive practices across the school environment. The psychologist works proactively to ensure students' emotional, behavioral, and social needs are addressed to promote academic engagement and overall well-being.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  1. Knowledge of mental health disorders, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based intervention strategies applicable to school-aged children and adolescents.
  2. Ability to conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and interpret data to support individualized educational and mental health planning.
  3. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills for working effectively with students, families, school staff, and community partners.
  4. Skilled in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques, with the capacity to respond calmly and effectively in high-stress situations.

Education, Training and Experience:


1. Specialist Degree in School Psychology from an accredited university preferred.


2. Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification in School Psychology is required.


3. Valid driving license and availability of private transportation is required.


4. Experience working with a diverse student population.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the School Psychologist shall be those assigned to him/her by the Psychological Services Coordinator. While specifc duties may vary according to the needs of the grant, the duties of the School Psychologist may include the following:

1. Provide timely mental health assessments and interventions for students demonstrating emotional or behavioral concerns.


2. Respond to mental health crises and collaborate with crisis response teams to ensure student safety.


3. Offer short-term individual and group counseling services for students with mental health needs.


4. Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and monitor progress in collaboration with school staff.


5. Serve as a mental health consultant to school staff, administrators, and families regarding students' emotional and behavioral functioning.


6. Participate in multidisciplinary teams including IEP, 504, and Student Support Teams to support educational


planning.


7. Collaborate with school-based mental health service providers to ensure coordinated, comprehensive support for students.


8. Conduct psychological evaluations related to emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges.


9. Interpret assessment data and provide comprehensive reports to inform educational decision-making and intervention strategies.


10. Deliver professional development to school personnel on topics such as trauma-informed practices, mental health awareness, and suicide prevention.


11. Participate in the planning and implementation of school-wide mental health and wellness initiatives.


12. Support implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) and other tiered systems of support (MTSS).


13. Maintain accurate and timely records of services provided, including documentation


14. Ensure all services and evaluations are compliant with local, state, and federal guidelines, including FERPA and IDEA.

SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:

1. 200-day work year.


2. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Salary Schedule. (Maximum salary limits may be set by the grant and will be observed.)

4. Special grant incentives (performance-based and for recruitment/retention; as available)

This position is grant-funded and is currently expected to end on December 31, 2029, contingent upon continued funding. Employment beyond this date is not guaranteed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing approximately 25 pounds; Ability to move around classrooms and other areas by stooping, bending, standing for extended periods and moving objects and materials. Crisis intervention may require participating in physical restraints.
