This position is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and operating high-pressure/high-temperature steam generators, steam turbine generators, combustion turbine generators, air quality control systems, water treatment systems, and associated auxiliary equipment through remote Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems. This role is safety-sensitive and requires sound judgment, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to make real-time operational decisions that support the safety of employees, contractors, plant systems, and major equipment. The Control Room Operator is expected to hold safety as a core value, recognize and mitigate hazards, follow plant procedures and OSHA standards, and actively stop or address unsafe work practices or conditions. The ideal candidate will provide leadership and direction within the working shift by prioritizing the work of shift personnel and support staff to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient generation of power. Responsibilities include monitoring, measuring, observing, and maintaining process parameters and inventories such as fuel storage, ash levels, pond levels, and water storage. The position also supports equipment start-up, troubleshooting, shutdowns, preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and accurate documentation through records, reports, work requests, and project requests. This position requires a highly skilled operator who can work under limited supervision, communicate effectively, lead operational priorities, and support continuous improvement in a complex power generation environment.Compensation Data Minimum: $31.25 Maximum: $56.95FLSA Exemption StatusNon-ExemptSummary This position requires advanced mastery level skilled shift work operating solid fuel fired or natural gas electric generation station equipment, including high pressure, high temperature steam generators (boilers), steam turbine generators, combustion turbine generators, and associated auxiliary systems and equipment including air quality control and water treatment systems. Incumbents in this classification report to a designated supervisor or manager and work under limited to no supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of managerial responsibility and from lower classes by its limited supervisory responsibility, leadership, advanced technical skills and requirements to perform operating functions and tasks as well as to train and instruct personnel. Examples of Work Safety must be held as a core value. The employee must be able to recognize hazards and address them through proper mitigation. Employee must be able to recognize when he/she needs additional training or is unfamiliar with a task. He/she must be willing and able to challenge others to work safely and to stop any observed unsafe work practice or condition to resolve the issue promptly. Observe and adheres to OSHA standards and performs permits for items such as proper lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work etc., of plant equipment and systems in accordance with plant procedures, policies, and practices. This position requires making safety-sensitive decisions that affect the safety of the employee, as well as other employees or contractors working with and around this employee or cause catastrophic failure of major equipment. Utilizes remote Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems to monitor, observe, analyze and operate equipment and process systems for power generation, environmental monitoring and control. Examples of Work (continued) Prepares accurate, detailed and complete records and reports in a timely manner. Keeps accurate and complete labor, material, production and equipment records and prepares other required reports. Generates written work requests and project requests based on observations. Takes or direct actions required to anticipate, correct or change a condition, as needed. Operates and provides direction for the operation of solid fuel fired or natural gas steam electric generating units and associated equipment including all fuel sourced steam generators (boilers) (including but not limited to natural gas, liquid fuels, pulverized coal, and biomass) and steam turbine generators. Directs the priorities of other shift personnel and other support personnel to support the safe, reliable and efficient generation of power. Works directly with other power plant personnel to start-up, troubleshoot, or shut down equipment for corrective or preventive maintenance. Place in and remove from service systems such as, but not limited to, electrical switchgear, breakers, controls, turbine generators, air quality control and monitoring equipment and material handling systems. Monitors, measures, observes, and maintains (ie., takes action) process parameters, and inventories, including fuel storage, ash levels, pond levels, and water storage. Provides leadership and supervision within the working shift. May work small projects to completion by involving the correct affected personnel and bringing closure to the project through documentation, procedural development and communication. Non-Essential Functions: Required to respond in emergency conditions. Acts in absence of supervisor or manager at assigned plant. Performs other duties as assigned.Education Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Experience Minimum of 5 years Journeyman Level Power Plant Operations Experience or Similar Operational control of sophisticated industrial equipment such as but not limited to a Chemical Plant Control Board Operations or Pulp and Paper Industrial Production Operations. Demonstrated ability as a journeyman level power plant operator experienced in both gas/oil fired, coal-fired steam or biomass fueled and/or combustion electric power plant operations. Skilled in operation and control through a Human Machine Interface (HMI) or Graphic User Interface (GUI).
