Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of a Deputy Inspector General Supervisor, the Deputy Inspector General II will conduct reviews of closed California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) use-of-force investigations; assist in conducting vettings of CDCR warden candidates; and, as assigned, conduct special reviews of CDCR’s policies, practices, and procedures. The Deputy Inspector General II will travel, as required, to CDCR prisons and facilities and to Office of the Inspector General (OIG) regional offices and headquarters in Sacramento, California. Travel may require occasional overnight stays. Telework eligibility is pursuant to Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California.

The Office of the Inspector General intends to fully comply with Executive Order N-22-25, requiring employees to report to an OIG office location or field location at least four days per week. Additional on-site days may be required based on departmental policies and operational needs.

The designated Headquarters (HQ) for this position is in Sacramento County, and the selected candidate will be required to commute to their HQ office location as needed to meet operational needs. All commute expenses to the HQ location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Please Note:

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced by 3% and will accrue 5 hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period. PLP 2025 for this classification is expected to be effective through July 2027.
